Hal ini disebabkan mayoritas penderita datang untuk berobat ketika keadaan kesehatannya telah kritis atau ketika penyakitnya sudah stadium lanjut. Untuk itu, pemeriksaan kesehatan dengan tes pap smear perlu dilakukan secara rutin sebagai deteksi dini kanker itu.

Demi menumbuhkan kesadaran untuk melindungi diri para perempuan dari kanker Serviks, Kepala Bidang Pendidikan dan Penyuluhan Yayasan Kanker Indonesia Sumarjati Arjoso, menyatakan, sosialisasi kepada masyarakat mengenai seluk-beluk penyakit kanker serviks, termasuk gejala, pencegahan dan deteksi dini harus terus dilakukan.

Keberhasilan Yayasan Kanker Indonesia dalam melaksanakan program penyuluhan pencegahan dan penanggulangan kanker serviks selama puluhan tahun dan program-program mendatang akan dipaparkan dalam forum Kongres Kanker Sedunia Tahun 2008, di Geneva.

Yayasan Kanker Indonesia memaparkan, angka kematian kanker serviks terbanyak di antara jenis kanker lain di kalangan perempuan. Diperkirakan, 52 juta perempuan Indonesia berisiko terkena kanker serviks, sementara 36 persen perempuan dari seluruh penderita kanker adalah pasien kanker serviks. Ada 15.000 kasus baru per tahun dengan kematian 8.000 orang per tahun.

Angka harapan hidup lima tahun jika kanke r ini diketahui dan diobati pada stadium 1 adalah 70-75 persen, pada stadium 2 adalah 60 persen, pada stadium 3 tinggal 25 persen, dan pada stadium empat penderita sulit diharapkan bertahan. "Jika penyakit ditemukan saat masih lesi pra kanker, penderita b isa diobati secara sempurna," ujarnya.

P enyakit ini bisa dicegah dengan vaksinasi. Masalahnya, vaksin untuk melindungi diri kita dari virus HPV penyebab kanker serviks itu harganya mahal, sehingga tidak terjangkau semua lapisan masyarakat, kata Sumarjati menjelaskan. Oleh karena itu, deteksi dini dengan melakukan tes pap smear secara rutin perlu dilakukan.

Namun, b udaya dan adat ketimuran di Indonesia telah membentuk sikap dan persepsi yang jadi penghalang bagi perempuan untuk membuka diri kepada profesional medis dan berdaya diri melindungi kesehatan reproduksinya. Akibatnya, lebih dari 70 persen penderita kanker serviks datang untuk berobat ketika keadaan kesehatannya telah kritis, dan penyakit ditemukan dalam stadium lanjut hingga sulit diobati.

Untuk itu, YKI menginisiasi kampanye edukasi kesadaran publik Bantu Cegah Kanker Serviks Sekarang pada tahun 2007 lalu dengan tujuan menyebarkan pengetahuan dan referensi mengenai seluk-beluk penyakit kanker serviks termasuk penyebab, faktor risiko, gejala, pencegahan, deteksi dini dan pengobatan. Selain itu, kampanye tersebut bertujuan memba ngkitkan kesadaran untuk melindungi diri dan menggugah daya diri perempuan untuk mampu menentukan sikap bagi kesehatan pribadi terutama organ reproduksinya.

Kami berprinsip, mencegah lebih baik daripada mengobati, dan bahwa kanker yang ditemukan dalam stadium dini akan mempunyai kemungkinan sembuh dan harapan hidup lebih besar daripada kanker stadium lanjut, kata Sumarjati. Sejauh ini, YKI bekerja sama dengan berbagai pihak mulai dari Departemen Kesehatan, Departemen Sosial, Kementerian Pemberdayaan Perempuan, BKKBN, dan lembaga-lembaga swadaya perempuan, serta perusahaan swasta terutama dari industri farmasi untuk terus secara konsisten menggulirkan dan menyuarakan pesan ini.

Hasil yang dicapai dari upaya itu antara lain, meningkatnya kesadaran perempuan untuk melakukan tes pap smear, banyak permintaan untuk edukasi dalam forum-forum publik dan kelompok-kelompok komunitas perempuan dari berbagai segmen secara nasional. Kami berharap kesadaran perempuan terhadap bahaya kanker serviks ini diikuti dengan aksi nyata yang bermanfaat bagi kesehatan mereka dengan melakukan tes pap smear dan imunisasi, kata Direktur Unit Bisnis PT Merck dr Ping Ping.

Alat Tes Genetik Kanker Payudara Pertama

Telah hadir sebuah kabar gembira bagi Kaum Hawa yang menderita kanker payudara. Kini dengan suatu alat tes genetik baru, mereka bisa tahu apakah mereka berisiko kambuh. Selain itu, dengan alat baru ini si pasien bias tahu seberapa lama mereka bias bertahan.

Adalah TOP2A/FISH pharmDx, nama dari alat itu. Alat ini merupakan alat pertama yang disahkan untuk menguji gen TOP2A (topoisomerase 2 alpha) pada pasien kanker. Gen TOP2A memegang peran penting dalam replikasi DNA. Perubahan gen TOP2A pada sel kanker payudara menunjukkan peningkatan risiko bahwa suatu tumor akan kambuh atau menurunkan survival.

Tes baru tersebut yang dibuat oleh Dako Denmark A/S, menggunakan fluorescently-labeled DNA probes untuk mendeteksi atau mengkonfirmasi gen atau abnormalitas kromosom, suatu proses yang disebut fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH).

Pengesahan FDA diberikan berdasarkan suatu studi dari 767 pasien berisiko tinggi di Denmark yang diobati dengan kemoterapi setelah pengangkatan kanker payudara. Studi menunjukkan tes baru ini berguna untuk memperkirakan kekambuhan kanker dan survival keseluruhan.

Saat digunakan dengan informasi klinis lainnya dan tes laboratorium, tes ini bisa memberikan pemahanan tambahan pada professional medis bagaimana perjalanan klinis untuk pasien kanker payudara.

2.Pastikan bahwa anak-anak dapat menjangkau buku-buku yang ada di rumah dengan mudah. Jika buku cerita "Dr Seuss" lebih dekat daripada Digital Video Recorder (DVR), maka anak-anak akan lebih mungkin menggapainya daripada nonton video.

3.Jadilah contoh dengan membaca sendiri. Anak-anak pasti akan segera mengikuti.

4.Bukan hanya buku yang dapat dibaca. Seperti halnya Anda suka membaca majalah, ajarkan hal yang sama pada anak-anak untuk membaca apa pun yang mereka suka seperti komik, bahkan buku petunjuk game pun bisa membuat mereka suka membaca.

8.Tinggalkan buku disamping tempat tidur anak-anak. Kematian Raja Musik Pop Dunia, Michael Jackson menjadi perhatian utama masyarakat dunia. Bahkan, berita kematian penyanyi yang akrab di sebut Jacko itu berimbas bagi situs yang terkenal dengan mesin pencarinya, Google.

Terganggunya sistem Google terjadi karena begitu banyak pengakses internet yang mengetik kata "Michael Jackson" pada kolom mesin pencari Google. Akibatnya, server Google kelebihan beban dalam mencari kata tersebut. Bahkan, para pengakses Google mendapatkan pesan otomatis karena disangka virus. "Kami minta maaf, namun permintaan Anda terlihat mirip dengan permintaan otomatis dari virus komputer atau aplikasi spyware".

Google mengemukakan bahwa Google News tidak bisa diakses untuk sejumlah orang, di hari Kamis sore kemarin. Hal ini lebih berkaitan dengan sirkulasi berita kematian Michael Jackson yang banyak dicari orang di Google News, kemudian digantikan dengan pesan peringatan "We're sorry, but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now."

Hal tersebut tentunya tampak sah dari Google, setelah jutaan orang di seluruh dunia mencari informasi yang akurat mengenai Jackson, termasuk mengenai sakit jantungnya. Pesan peringatan di atas diduga Google dimulai pada jam 2:45 p.m. PDT, Kamis sore, dan Google mmenduga bahwa query pencarian Google News soal Michael Jackson telah diserang selama 25 menit sebelum Google menyadarinya.

Google juga mencatat bahwa masalah trafik query ini juga berimbas pada pencarian melalui mobile. Sebuah situs ycorpblog.com, merekam bahwa terdapat 16.4 juta visitor unik yang mencari berita kematian Michael Jackson dalam satu hari Kamis kemarin di Google News.
